This pledge was articulated in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) election manifesto for Bangladesh’s 13th national election. In its election manifesto the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) states that “Specialised Women Welfare Centres at the union level will be established. In these centres, female doctors, lawyers, and human rights workers will provide integrated support to abused women according to their needs.”
Observation
On 10 June 2026, the Minister for Women and Children Affairs, AZM Zahid Hossain, announced that the government planned to establish One-Stop Crisis Centres (OCCs) in all 37 government medical colleges to provide comprehensive support services to women and children who are survivors of violence. The initiative also envisages expanding OCC coverage to all 64 districts and, in the longer term, to every upazila across the country. However, the announced expansion does not extend to the union level, and there has been no indication of plans for establishing specialised women's support centres or cells at the union level yet.
