This pledge has been articulated in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) election manifesto for Bangladesh’s 13th National Election. The manifesto stated that "Multimedia classrooms will be set up in primary and secondary schools to support the curriculum and moral education through educational images, videos, documentaries and online content."

On 24 March 2026, the Ministry of Education included multimedia classrooms in its 180-day priority programme as part of the government's education reform agenda and manifesto implementation commitments.
The prime minister informed parliament that 3,832 multimedia classrooms would be established within the first 180 days of the government. The FY2026–27 budget and related education sector announcements further reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding multimedia and digital learning facilities in primary and secondary educational institutions (Budget Speech 2026-27).
On 28 June 2026, the Education Minister announced that, under the ‘One Teacher, One Tab’ programme, 25,000 multimedia classrooms would be established to support digital learning and student monitoring. Alongside, under the "Learning with Happiness" initiative, 20,000 multimedia classrooms will be established at the secondary and higher secondary levels.

In March 2026, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) issued an office order seeking information from 150 educational institutions under the project titled ‘Establishment of Smart Classrooms in Secondary Schools’. The order stated that 300 smart classrooms would be established in 150 selected institutions and requested institutional information to facilitate project implementation.

According to the BNP government’s “180 Days of Government of the People” report, 327 digital classrooms under the Directorate of Technical Education had already been established, while a project had been prepared to establish another 6,600. In madrasa education, 1,315 multimedia classrooms across 653 institutions had become operational, while work was underway through the Technical and Madrasah Education Division (TMED) to introduce another 14,309 classrooms in 5,907 madrasas. The report also states that the government repaired and restored 65,000 laptops and 62,000 projectors and speakers that had previously been provided to educational institutions.
Observation

Implementation of this has primarily built on existing digital education infrastructure. Therefore, the government appears to be putting more focus on expanding coverage and strengthening the use of multimedia classrooms within the education system. The real challenge lies in making these facilities functional and useful for modernising teaching methods and realising the desired learning outcomes.
