No publicly verifiable development was identified confirming revision of the Allocation of Business of the Statistics and Informatics Division to establish the proposed balance of professional responsibilities and jurisdiction between SID and the National Statistical Organisation.
It may be noted that the taskforce proposal specifies the following arrangements:
• Alignment of the roles and responsibilities of StatBD with the functions set out in the Statistics Act, 2013.
• Assignment to StatBD of responsibility for all matters relating to statistics.
• Coordination by StatBD of national statistical requirements and methodologies involving national and international agencies in accordance with international standards.
• Elimination of duplication in statistical activities through coordination with relevant national and international agencies.
• Joint preparation, maintenance, and revision of the National Population Register with other government agencies.
• Secure provision of NPR-based services to government and non-government agencies, together with appropriate access controls.
• Development and maintenance of government-wide standards for data structures.
• Development and maintenance of a central Geographical Information System platform.
• Conduct of periodic population and housing, agriculture, and economic censuses.
• Conduct of surveys on socioeconomic, demographic, and other areas.
• Preparation and maintenance of official statistics on vital events, agriculture, manufacturing, foreign trade, and other socioeconomic activities.
• Compilation of national accounts and price statistics.
• Processing, authentication, and dissemination of official statistics.
• Preparation and revision of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics.
• Establishment and maintenance of a data bank, electronic data-processing system, and necessary digital archives.
• Revision of SID’s Allocation of Business under Rule 9(ix) of the Rules of Business, 1996, as revised up to July 2012.
• Assignment to SID of responsibility for facilitating legislative measures and amendments relating to statistical laws.
• Evaluation by SID of the implementation of plans relating to statistics and informatics.
• Formulation and revision by SID of informatics policy.
• Implementation by SID of projects and programmes undertaken by the Division.
• Provision of support by SID to StatBD in formulating and revising statistical policy and the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics.
• Conduct by SID of inquiries and provision of consultancy services on subjects allocated to the Division.
