This proposal is linked to the proposal to empower the Chief Statistician, as a methodological advisory mechanism would support the Chief Statistician’s role in data validation, data release, and the maintenance of national statistical standards.
It may be noted that the proposal called for a council comprising representatives of StatBD, other data-producing entities, and relevant experts. The council would be responsible for establishing standardised procedures, conducting regular peer reviews, and identifying opportunities to consolidate surveys undertaken by different agencies, thereby strengthening the NSO’s role as the custodian of national statistical standards.
