Observation

The Five Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development (July 2026-June 2031) has identified the lack of a dedicated specialised statistical academy as a weakness. As a way forward, establishing a Dedicated specialised Statistical Academy under the leadership of the National Statistics Office has been mentioned.
However, no publicly available information is available to confirm that there is an initiative to transform the existing training centre into a fully operational academy, which would require institutional, staffing, governance, and reporting arrangements.
It may be noted that the proposal further provides for the preparation of a structured Training Calendar comprising three principal components: orientation training for newly inducted officials; refresher and thematic training for in-service officials upon each promotion; and data leadership training for top management. The Rector would also be required to submit an annual report on the Academy’s activities and performance to the Trust and Transparency Commission of Statistics.
