This pledge has been articulated in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s election manifesto for Bangladesh’s 13th national election. The manifesto states that "Every student, teacher, and school will have a unique digital identity, or Edu-ID. Through this ID, it will be possible to track how far someone has learned and where they are progressing, helping prevent student dropouts.”

Reportedly, on 9 March 2026, the Education Minister discussed an 180-day education action plan that included a digital Edu-ID system for students. On 8 April 2026, the Prime Minister told Parliament that initiatives were underway to introduce Edu-ID for every student and teacher. The FY2026–27 Budget Speech also mentioned that a unique Edu-ID would be introduced for every student. The State Minister for Primary and Mass Education has stated that the planned Unique ID would be integrated into an upgraded school-management system, alongside ERP and LMS platforms. He explained that the ID could be used to track students as they move between institutions, including from government primary schools to kindergartens, allowing their records to remain connected across the system
Observation

Policymakers have repeatedly emphasised the importance of a unique student ID for tracking learners across institutions, monitoring educational progress and helping identify potential dropouts. It may also be noted that the government is separately developing a national Unified Digital Identity (One-ID) system intended to support access to public services, including education. If the proposed Edu-ID is eventually integrated or made interoperable with this wider system, the two initiatives could complement each other and create a more holistic mechanism for maintaining continuous student records, following learners across institutions and improving education planning and service delivery.
