This pledge has been included in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) election manifesto for Bangladesh's 13th National Election. The manifesto states that “From Class Six onward, education will be made more enjoyable to help students grow into responsible citizens through teamwork, personal skill development, and family, social, and moral education.”

On 8 June 2026, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education announced that “Learning with Happiness” would be introduced as a new subject from Class VI as part of the ongoing curriculum reform. The subject is intended to develop students’ moral values, responsibility, social behaviour and practical life skills. On 28 June 2026, the Education Minister informed Parliament that NCTB had begun preparing a new “Learning with Happiness” textbook for Class VI for the 2027 academic year. The proposed textbook is designed to make learning more enjoyable, participatory and student-centred, while supporting students’ creativity, self-expression and broader skills. On 13 July, 2026, the State Minister for Primary and Mass Education stated that the upcoming curriculum would move students away from rote learning and focus on problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, creativity, and human values.
Observation

The government has consistently communicated its firm commitments to reform primary education by embedding learning with happiness. Understandably, the preparation is going on, which will involve significant division of the current curriculum and textbooks. It must also be taken into cognisance that, to successfully deliver this commitment, two further aspects should be taken into cognisance; viz., transforming teaching modality and ensuring teachers' capacities.
