This pledge was articulated in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)’s election manifesto for Bangladesh’s 13th national election. The manifesto states that “To enhance modern, up-to-date training, skill development, and overall facilities for teachers of primary and secondary schools and equivalent institutions, tablet computers will be provided.”

On 19 February 2026, the State Minister of Education announced the government’s plan to provide each teacher with a tablet containing lesson plans, question banks, attendance tools and learning-evidence applications at a press conference.
On 24 March, “One Teacher, One Tab” was included in the government’s 180-day education priority programme, and on 1 April the Prime Minister told Parliament that 9,000 technical-education teachers would receive tablets under the programme. 16 April 2026, the Ministry of Education gave approval to Huawei’s “One Classroom, One Smart Board and One Teacher, One Tablet” pilot at two secondary schools in Bogura and Chandpur.
According to a media report on 4 August 2026, DSHE prepared a separate “One Teacher, One Tab” scheme under the Secondary Education Development Program and sent it to the Ministry of Education.

The FY2026–27 Budget Speech mentioned the programme as part of the government’s technology-based education initiatives, although no separate allocation was specified. On 8 September 2026, the Education Minister informed Parliament that the “One Teacher, One Tab” programme remained under active consideration and had not yet received final approval or funding, while no date had been fixed for tablet distribution. At the secondary level, the initiative is being considered through the Secondary Education Development Programme and other proposed digital-learning projects, while at the primary level implementation remains dependent on approval and financing of PEDP-5.
The government has indicated that device specifications, digital content, internet connectivity, teacher training, maintenance and device-management arrangements would need to be prepared before implementation, followed by a pilot and phased expansion. This suggests that the nationwide programme remains at a preparatory stage. Implementation of this pledge should also be connected with the government’s broader plan to strengthen digital facilities in educational institutions, while lessons from past multimedia-classroom initiatives may be relevant. Citizen’s Platform previously estimated that providing tablets at the primary level alone could require about Tk. 520–780 crore, assuming a cost of Tk. 8,000–12,000 per device and coverage of teachers in both public and private institutions. For the secondary level, an additional Tk. 230–350 crore may be required.
